How can I get rid of the flys that gather under the shade on my porch?

They just hang out in the shad and are bothersome.  They asr small in size but larger than fruit flys.

So my guess is that they are under there for a reason, some food source or most likely the shade of the porch has created a source of water for them to multiply.  You may only have one choice which i would say would be to spray some type of deterant in the wet areas.  You could start off with a less toxic product first.  Good luck

If it is very hot, flies head for the shade-at least where we live. You can spray, or get some flycatcher bottles or sticky strips.  They do the same thing in cool weather, settle for the night on our porch ceiling.  You can just vacuum them up with your shop vac, and spray some insecticide in after them.

Southerners have traditionally painted the ceilings of their outdoor porches a light blue, which is perceived as sky by the critters, apparently eliminating the problem!

If they are actually 'hanging out' in the 'shad' and not the shade, I would suggest a flyswatter and a beer.
The flyswatter is for the flies & the beer is because this will take a while ...  :-))

I don't know if this would work for all type of flies, but in my work have run across like 3 times homes owners (South Florida) where they hang clear ziplock or transparent plastic bags with about a pint of water hanging from a fishing line from a nail outside their porches the may have 6 to 7 of these bags spread. They have told me that that was to keep the black flies away. They claim that the flys are scared and don't hang out their doors waiting to slip the minute some opens the doors.   FLY VOODOO

I can not say for sure if that works or not but I have seen this a various home.  Careful with trash piles nearby that might be your source also try the fly tape - very inexpensive like $ 2     3 to 4 fly rolls the flies just stick to it & die
